We were recently asked if it is possible to clip a Shetland pony with a Liveryman Classic or a Liveryman Element horse trimmer. You will certainly hear of others who have used trimmers to clip a pony, and the Liveryman Classic is a nice little trimmer – it’s inexpensive, easy to hold, nice and quiet and has been popular for years. However, the old saying “a trimmer is for trimming and a clipper is for clipping” does usually hold true. It will take a long time to clip a pony with a trimmer and the hair could clog it up. If you are looking for a light weight clipper/trimmer, you might get away with a Lister Libretto Max, but it would be safer to go for a medium duty clipper like the Lister Star or the Liveryman Harmony Plus.
