Our solar kits are built around a high quality energiser that is designed to provide a good strong fence . The solar panel is matched to the energisers requirements. A small cheap solar panel we not recharge the battery adequately and ultimately ( in some cases fairly quickly ) the energiser will stop due to a lack of power . Most of our kits use amorphous silicon panels. This technology that allows the panel to absorb a wider spectrum of natural light. This allows the panel to provide power even with cloudy sky's. Therefore these panels these are better suited to the less bright days we have here in the UK.

 FAQ :What is the advantage of solar ?The quick answer is free power but I feel the true answer is ease and convenience. With a conventional electric fence setup there is the need to recharge the 12v battery every 3-4 weeks. This can mean moving the battery some considerable distance to be recharged and then moving it back again the following day ,with solar there is hardly any need to recharge the battery ( see below ) .

 Can I use solar in my field , garden ?
As long as the panel can face due south and see the sky it will work . If the panel is located so that it is in the shade most of the day, the solar panel will barely function and will not charge the battery.

Does the panel need to be protected from the rain ?
No the panels are weather proof , this means that they can be left out in the rain but they must not be submerged in water .

How long will the panel keep my electric fence functioning?
Because of the nature of solar it is not possible to give a guaranteed number of days . That said we have no problems through spring , summer and autumn of 2007 , during winter it may be necessary to give the battery a top up in December and January . This is due to the short days and the low position of the sun in the sky
