The HR5 is Gallagher’s newest and most powerful, portable EID Tag reader that can read HDX and FDX-B tags extremely quickly; with an ergonomic and durable design this is the perfect tool for data collection.
With its large colour screen and alphanumerical keyboard, the HR5 is the most adanced platform for data collection and processing. Users can link visual ear tags to the electric ones, store the weight and measure daily progress. Furthermore, it is able to store various animal traits, such as sex, breed, condition and more. The user can link the electronic ear tag of a mother with its newborn.

The control panel is a good size, easy to read and has a complete system. The wand is light but durable. The wand vibrates and has an LED light and beep to let you know you have successfully scanned an animal.

Please note that there are some grants available that may pay for up to 40% of your Smart Reader. In 2019 the budget has been increased from £23.5 million to £30 million. Farmers (including livestock, dairy, arable and horticultural sectors) that they can apply for a grant with a minimum of £3.000, up to a maximum of £12.000 (covering 40% of purchase price) to improve their animal welfare, resource efficiency or nutrient management.

England: Countryside Productivity Small Grant Scheme and the LEADER funding
Scotland: Rural Development: Small Farms Grant Scheme and New Entrants Capital Grant Scheme available between 2015 and 2020
Wales: A Farm Business Grant is available between £ 3.000 and £ 12.000 (1 application per business).
