Guide to Selecting the right clipper for your cattle

Cattle Clipper: Lister, Heiniger or Liveryman?

Selecting the right cattle clipper is important.  You need to consider how many cattle you need to clip, how dirty they are, where they are kept and the size of your hands.

If you are showing your cattle, then you want to consider a horse clipper.  Something like a Lister Legend with an A2F blade is popular.  You need a medium duty clipper.

If, however, you are clipping a herd of possible dirty animals, you need something that is heavy duty. The Lister Laser 2 with CA2 Coarse blades is a very popular choice.  If you have small hands, you may still want to go for the smaller Legend, but again select CA2 coarse blades (Lister will send the clipper with CA2 blades at no extra charge, but you have to make a special request as they usually come with A2F blades fitted as standard).  A Heiniger Delta 3 is another good option and usually comes with Coarse blades as well as Standard blades (but please check what selection of blades is included in your order).

Another consideration is the number of blades you will require.  If you have a sand yard, you will need at least 4 or 5 blades because nothing blunts blades more quickly than sand.

In general, if you have dirty animals, you would be wise to select the largest clipping machine your hands can handle.  You will also need several sets of coarse blades.
