Lister Shearing's Covercote Blade for clipping your horse for events and shows
Lister Shearing's Covercote blade grows in popularity every year. The blade fits on all standard size Lister horse clippers, including the Lister Star (the most popular horse clipper in the UK), the Lister legend (a real work horse of a clipper), the Lister Fusion (Lister's heavy duty multi-speed clipper) and the Lister Liberty (Lister's cordless clipper). The Covercote clips hair to approximately 5mm and this longer length gives the horse a natural looking finish and seems to leave less 'tram lines' than traditional length blades.
Lister is the only brand that produces this type of blade, and the Covercote will only fit on Lister clippers. It's one of the reasons that Lister remains so popular! The blade is, however, more difficult to produce. It requires a special machine and is made here in the UK. Every year there seems to be a shortage of this blade. In past years, this has been because Lister's machines couldn't make them fast enough. Lister therefore invested heavily in new machines. Now the problem is getting enough raw material!
The Lister Covercote blade is hugely popular, especially here in the UK and in the United States of America. It is a little more expensive than the standard A2F Fine blade, A2 Medium blade and the Coarse blades, but this is due to the more challenging production process and the extra length of the teeth (which require more raw material). As with all blades, it is important to use a lot of oil, brush any acidic hair of the blades and oil them again before putting them away (ensuring they are nice and cool).
If you would like a Covercote, it is best to order early! And it is always a good idea to have a spare set if you are preparing your horse for an event or show. If the blade suddenly goes blunt, a half clipped horse is not a good look!
